Field Trips

 

Language Day at the University of Minnesota

Paynesville students will not be attending Language Day at the University of Minnesota on Tuesday, May 21st 2013 for the 2012 / 2013 school year.  Students have an opportunity to take a variety of different classes and experience the University of Minnesota campus.  The bus will leave the High School at 6:30 a.m. and should return by 3:30p.m.(barring traffic)  The cost is $16.  The students will need to bring money for lunch. Parents interested in being chaperones should contact Mr. Wilke or Mrs. Gaebe at the High School. 

 

Festival of Nations

Paynesville students will  be attending Festival of Nations on Friday, May 5th, 2017 for the 2016 / 2017 school year.  This year we will not add a boat cruise on the Mississippi river, which will cover some local history of the area.  The bus will leave the High School at 8 a.m. and should return by 2:50p.m.(barring traffic)  The cost is $20. There will be an opportunity for students to purchase items as well as food.  It is recommended that students bring $15-$20 for food at this event.  Students will be responsible to bring money for lunch and souvenirs.  Parents interested in being chaperones should contact Mr. Wilke or Mrs. Gaebe at the High School. 

 

German Day at the Zoo

Paynesville German students will be attending German Day at the Zoo  and visit a German Restaurant Gasthof Zur Gemütlichkeit  on February 3rd, 2016 for the 2015/ 2016 school year.  The bus will leave the High School at 7:15 a.m. and should return by 3:30p.m.(barring traffic)  The cost is $22.50 for the Zoo and $17.50 for the Restaurant.  German 3 and 4 students may have presentations to do at the zoo.   Parents interested in being chaperones should contact Mr. Wilke at the High School. 

 

Spanish Day at the Zoo

Paynesville Spanish students will be attending Spanish Day at the Zoo and visit Midtown Global Market for lunch in Minneapolis on February 10th, 2016 for the 2015/ 2016 school year.  The bus will leave the High School at 7:15 a.m. and should return by 3:30p.m.(barring traffic)  The cost is $22.50 for the Zoo.  Spanish 3 and 4 students may have presentations to do at the zoo.   Parents interested in being chaperones should contact Mr. Wilke at the High School. 

 

 

Deutschfest

Deutschfest is a competion and a celebration of German between about 1200 - 2000 German students held at Saint John's University.  Students compete in various categories.  This years event will be TBD.  The cost is $8.  Students have the option to bring their own lunch or purchase a lunch buffet for $7.  After lunch we will be visiting a German Artisan Bakery before returning to school.  Parents interested in being chaperones should contact Mr. Wilke at the High School. 

 

 

Ulm Exchange

We are currently looking for host Families for German students from our sister school in ULM Germany.  There will be 24 students and 2 instructors visiting us from August 31st, 2016 to September 17th 2016 (about 2 1/2 weeks). Please contact Mr. Wilke if you would like to host or would like to have a chance to meet them.

 

Host Family Volunteers and Travel Abroad

Paynesville students and their families have an opportunity to host foreign students throughout the school year for different lengths of time.  If you or your family are interested in hosting please contact Mr. Wilke.  Here is a list of the companies that the Paynesville Foreign Language department has worked with:

1. Friendship Connection (30 day visit with students coming only from Germany) 

2. EF Foundation for Foreign Study (Students worldwide visit for a semester or 1 year.  Students can earn money towards their German or Spanish trips if EF is used for the trip).

3. ISE (Students worldwide visit from 3 weeks, a semester or 1 year.  Students can also receive money towards their German trip if ISE is used).

4. ASSE (Students worldwide visit for a semester or 1 year),

5. ERDT Share (Students worldwide visit for 5 months or 10 months)

 

There are numerous programs available to students wishing to travel to a foreign country.  Below are some programs that Paynesville area students have taken advantage of:

 

1.      Lions Club Youth Exchange Program Students need to write an essay on how they would be a good advocate for the united states to recieve a Scholarship that pays mosts costs for travel to one foreign country for approxiamately 1 month.  Students  awarded scholarships typically pay approxiamately $1,000 for a one month stay.  Students are hosted by families in the country of travel.  It is recommend that students apply / travel in groups for saftey.

 

2.      Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Students  who apply must  be a U.S. citizen, have a GPA of 3.0 or better and be between the ages of 15-18.  Students can eran partial to full scholarships to study in a German speaking country.

 

3.      YFU Students can apply to a number of different types of scholarships.  Scholarships are  for a number of different countries.  Scholarships can be partial or full scholarships.
